Privacy Policy
Play Designer, by Strange Mesa LLC · Effective September 28, 2026
The short version
- There are no accounts. You never sign up or sign in.
- Your playbooks are stored on your device. We don't have a copy.
- Team links carry the playbook inside the link's fragment, which is never sent to our server.
- The app sends anonymous usage and crash data that isn't linked to your identity. No tracking, no advertising identifiers.
- Apple and RevenueCat handle purchases. We never see your payment details.
Your playbooks
Everything you create in Play Designer (plays, formations, rosters, notes and settings) is stored on your iPhone or iPad, and in your device backups if you use them. We don't run a server that stores playbooks, so we can't see them. Deleting a playbook, or the app, removes it from your device.
Team links
When you share a playbook, the app packs the plays you choose into the link itself, in the part after the “#” (the link's fragment). Browsers keep the fragment on the device, so it is never sent to our server. When a player opens the link, their browser downloads our viewer page from playdesigner.web.app, and the playbook is unpacked and drawn on the player's own phone. It never reaches us.
Player names and jersey numbers are left out of links unless you turn on “Include player names.” Anyone who has a link can see what's in it, so share it the way you would share a printed playbook.
The viewer page has no analytics, cookies, ads or trackers, and it makes no requests beyond its own files. Like any website, our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) receives standard request information, such as IP address and browser type, in order to deliver the page. It does not receive the playbook.
Analytics and crash reports
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to learn which features get used and to find and fix crashes. This includes events such as creating a play, animating a play or printing, along with the app version, device model, operating system version and crash diagnostics. Firebase assigns a random identifier to the app installation.
This data is anonymous: it isn't linked to your name, email or any account, and it doesn't include your plays, roster or player names. The app doesn't use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or any other tracking identifier, and we don't use this data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Purchases
Play Designer Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card or payment details. We use RevenueCat to confirm what you've purchased and unlock Pro. RevenueCat receives purchase information such as the product, price and transaction dates, linked to an anonymous app user identifier rather than your name or email.
If you install Play Designer from an Apple Search Ads ad, Apple's AdServices framework tells RevenueCat which ad campaign and keyword led to the install. It contains no personal identifiers and isn't used to track you.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent data, and we don't share it for advertising.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
Children
Play Designer is made for coaches. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. The team viewer that players open collects no personal information at all. If a coach chooses to include player names in a link, those names travel only inside that link.
Your choices
You can delete any playbook in the app, or delete the app to remove everything from your device. Because analytics and purchase data aren't linked to your identity, we generally can't look up data about you, but we're happy to answer questions.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
